Ingredients
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 cup Sugar
- 5 Egg Yolks
- 5 Egg Whites
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 cup All Purpose Flour
- 1 ½ tsp Vanilla Bean Paste or Extract
- â…“ cup of Evaporated Milk (â…“ cup)
- 1 cup Maraschino Cherries
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 ½ cup Evaporated Milk
- 1 ½ cup Sweet Condensed Milk
- ½ cup Heavy Cream or Half & Half
Instructions
- Add â…“ sugar to eggs and whip until stiff peaks form. Set aside
- In a stand mixer or with a hand mixer, beat/whisk egg yolks and sugar. Beat until a pale yellow color
- Add vanilla extract and beat for another 1-2 mins
- Add â…“ of All Purpose Flour and mix on low speed
- And ½ evaporated milk and mix on low speed
- Alternate between dry and wet ingredients until it’s all been added
- Scrape bowl and add ½ egg white-sugar mixture
- Gently fold in eggs whites until all of the egg whites have been added and folded in
- Add cake batter to cake pan that’s been greased and lined with parchment/wax paper
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 35mins
- Cake is ready when toothpick comes out clean
- Once the cake is cooled, use circle cutters that are just a hair smaller than the mason jars that you’ll be using
- Cut as many circles as you can setting aside all of the cake scraps. You can still soak those pieces for a delicious cake
- Now place cake into mason jars and set aside
- In a large mixing bowl, combine evaporated milk, half & half or cream, sweet condensed milk, and vanilla. Mix until well combined
- Pour milk mixture over cakes being careful not to overfill
- Place mason jars in fridge. Chill for 1 hour or more
- Frost with a dollop of your favorite frosting and add a cherry
Notes
Tres Leches cake is moist and best enjoy when chilled. Using half and half or cream makes a huge difference. Cake scraps can still be soaked in Tres Leches and taste fantastic!
